"There are far colder things that I am capable of." King Sombra said in a satisfied voice, magically pulling one of Night's wings free and grabbing a crystal shard. He levitates the shard above the wing; threatening to pierce the leather-like wing.
"Tell me what Chrysalis is doing, sending you to my castle. Are you a Changling spy? Who do you hold your loyalties to? How did you unsheath an Umbrum soldier form his armor?" Sombra asks the line of questions, expecting answers, lowering the shard closer and closer to his wing.

Night had to admit, he was beyond nervous. Nevertheless, reason won out in his mind; what good would it do to quiver in fear? No, Night would do what he's been doing for five years. Suppress his emotions.
"You know, if you wanted to ask me those questions, I would have answered them freely."
He takes a deep breath.
"I intervened in a Beastling attack, killed the Beastling, and Chrysalis suddenly showed up. She didn't approve of my actions, and attacked me. I drank a potion that made me immune to magic for a short time, this is how I neutralized your hammer, and proceeded to beat the stuffing out of her. I even trapped her under a chandelier. Why she teleported me here, I don't know. Maybe it was the first place she could think of. Your guess is as good as mine. I'm not a changeling soy, nor am I a changeling. I'm loyal to myself. I outsmarted him, and pried it off."
Night locks eyes with the tyrant.
"Look, it's obvious to me that you and Chrysalis have a little feud going on. I don't care why honestly. I can however, offer a solution if you let me off this table, and leave my wings in tact. "

Kind Sombra had a hard time truly believing what the bat said, though he definitely wanted to. Thinking of the Queen getting her exoskeleton-plot kicked by a simple, magicless batpony was quite amusing; it only showed how dependent she is on magic.
"I'm not going to untie you." Sombra states firmly, trotting over to the lever and pulling on it. Within moments Night felt his front and back hooves stress, along with the center of his back. If it got any tighter, Night's tendons would likely tear, and his joints would pop-out.
"However, tell me your solution fast enough, and I might not break your back~" Sombra says lightheartedly, getting ready to pull on the lever again.

Feeling his back crack and his muscles strain, Night winces.
"Chrysalis mentioned something about an... Arena. She wanted me to replace the pony she already had, but I turned her down. I'm willing to bet that you're taking part in this arena, it would be a good opportunity to stick it to the Changeling queen. I'll fight on your behalf in the arena, if you let me out of this thing. "

Sombra stopped and pulled his hoof away from the lever. He stared at Night, thinking quietly. Of course Chrysalis would send a fighter to him in a game that she announced! He's a changling, and he's been sent here to fight for him, and loose just so she could humiliate him!
With rage coursing through his mind, he stabbed the crystal shard down through Night's wing and yanked it down; cutting through the leather wing, just as if he were cutting up a dragons. He clenched his teeth and glared as he stabbed again and again through the wing.
"Of course you'd want to fight, SPY! You were sent here by your Queen, the same day that she announced that there will be games! This is a trick! I wasn't born yesterday, you brat!" Sombra rages, bringing the crystal shard down again on his wing.

Night's eyes widen as the shard pierced his wing, sending a wave of pain shooting through his body. Night groans in pain, biting his bottom lip so he wouldn't cry out. Tear droplets welled up in his eyes, that bucking hurt. Sombra must have been some sort of paranoid idiot.
"I'm not a Changeling, you paranoid-!"
Before he could finish his sentence, the shard punched through his wing once again.
"ARGH!- Dammit! Can't you read minds or something?! Or magically force me out of my form if I were a Changeling?! Stop bucking stabbing me!"

"Stab," Sombra says, punching another hole through his wing with the shard, "Stab," he adds, piercing another hole, "Stab!" he finishes the statement as he pierced the wing another time before setting the crystal shard on a table beside him.
"You don't tell a king what to do! And no, I can't read minds, not in the way you're thinking about... hm.." Sombra hummed, grabbing the crystal-shard again. It should be enough to induce a fear-trance. This bug's worst fear should be his Bug-mother saying she's disappointed in him, or something like that. He levitated the crystal in front of Night's face and channeled his magic into it.
The pain would subside, and Night would leave his body, entering into the crystal. Inside awaits his worst fears, and Sombra sat back to watch the show.

Each stab hurt more than the last. At first, Night was able to suppress the screams; he had become very good at managing pain over the years. Near the end though, the bat couldn't help but yelp and cry out in pain.
'Honestly, what did I do to deserve this?!' He keeps it inside, not wanting Sombra to hear him beg.
Feeling the pain slowly fade away, Night assumed it was that torture doctor again. That was, until he started to see visions of his past...
[Enter Night Whisper's greatest fear]
The image painted by the bat pony's mind was one of fire, and death. Night returns to his home after a long absence, only to find it burning, with the corpses of the ones he once knew littering the ground. They were all dead, and it was by changing hooves... This was not some fear of what may happen, Night Whisper's greatest fear has already come to pass.

Seeing and studying what he sees, King Sombra surmises that the bat is either a bat working under Chrysalis and put under heavy hypnotism -- or he's just a bat. Sombra decides it's best to play it safe and cancels the spell, ripping Night from the crystal and putting him back in his body. Sombra whacks Night on the forehead with the crystal and sets it down.
"Okay, so let's say you are just some bat... why would Chrysalis send you to me? To punish you? Perhaps she planted something inside you that will burst from you and spy on me..." he hums, picking up a knife from his side-tray and holding it over Night's exposed belly.

Clenching her eyes shut at the sound of the bat pony screaming, Ruby Rose felt entirely useless. She couldn't fight, she couldn't escape, she was in short term, nothing to him. Trembling in the shadow, a light pink aura glowed over her horn as the young unicorn tried to think of something. Unable to come up with much, her soft red coat could soon be seen as the frightened pony pushed to the light. Stepping into view, her horn was dim yet glowing as she tried to pretend she knew what she was doing.
"Stop! We.. we were sent here because Chrysalis wanted to mess with you! She wanted you to go through these emotions of spying. She wants... us dead! Are you just going to give her what she wants!? P-lease, your majesty, you're one of the best leaders this nation has seen in a long time. Dont slump down to her level. Let us see the side of you that criminals can't, let us see the forgiven King. Show me you can be more then just a killing machine!"
Speaking and stuttering at random intervals, it was obvious she was beyond scared right now. Still, needing to try to save Night in anyway she could, she spewed words even she wasn't clear about. She wasn't lying, for the kingdoms had not known much of the king besides murder, and that was never good for a nation to live with in peace. Hopefully, if she was incredibly lucky, he would allow them to live another day.

Raising an eyebrow and holding the knife above Night, King Sombra looked over at the unimposing mare. He knew she wouldn't be a threat to him in any way, so he looked calm and collected. Her words made sense early on, and his ego enjoyed the stroking that she was giving it when she said he was 'the best' leader this nation has ever seen, that was nice of her.
The rest of the mumbo-jumbo went from one ear and passed right on through to the other. He was King Sombra, morality and sentimentality were lost on him a long time ago; both those things were deathly boring. He sets the knife down back on its tray and sighs, rolling his eyes.
"Fine... I suppose you have a point... I won't kill you," Sombra says, looking to Night. "You talk too much, though," King Sombra adds, looking to the young mare, "I'll let you live out the rest of your life in slavery... oh, and tell the guards I want your tongue removed; your voice is too loud and I'm too bothers to tell the guards myself." he mumbles, batting a dismissive hoof at her and grabbing a small-ish hammer from the tray with his hoof.
He then takes the hammer and slams it down on the bone-base of Night's wing; breaking it and rendering the wing useless.

Night's eyes widen in shock when the more revealed herself. Inside his mind, he started to panic. She was going to get herself killed! Before Night could speak up, she surprisingly didn't manage to dig herself into that big of a hole. She was alive at least.
CRUNCH!
A searing, devastating pain shoots through the bat's wing, all the way through his back. He tried to yank his wing away, though it became quickly apparent that he had lost control of the limb.
"AAARRGH!" He yelps.
Moments pass, and Night closes his eyes tightly.
'N-Never l-let yourself... B-be overwhelmed by your opponent...' He reminds himself internally.
Instead of weeping, or begging, Sombra would hear an amused laughter coming from the now crippled bat pony.

Sombra laughed with Night, "I feared - hah - I feared that finding joy in taking away a Pegasus's wings would be weird, but I'm glad you do too!" He trotted around, pulled Night's other wing out - with force if he had too - and swung the hammer down on the same spot, "Makes me feel less self-conscious about this whole sort of thing."
Once the other wing was broken, King Sombra moved the hammer down and rubbed the flat side against Night's face; making him feel the cold surface that broke his wings.

Night howelled once again as he felt his other bone shatter. Night was very good at managing pain. He remembered when the monks would tie him to a post and beat him with staffs for hours... This wasn't a punishment, it was training. One can only understand pain when they are subjected to it. Night learned one valuable thing during these trials... Getting hurt is similar to getting wet. You can only get so much water on you before you stop noticing it. Once your body has been subjected to enough horrors, and your senses become overloaded with suffering, the rest becomes white noise. Pain is in your mind, and once you have mastered your mind, you have mastered pain. Night would never beg, never plead, and never relent. He would simply respond with a hardy chuckle.
"N-No, it's not that... I just never would have guessed that the legendary King Sombra would turn out to be such a coward. It's hilarious really, in a pathetic sort of way..."
He continued to laugh.

Hearing his words of slavery, Ruby's dark red pupils widened at the thought of it. Frightened and not understanding why the bat pony was still being tortured, she spoke up once again. She was scared, and was probably going to be completely miserable and asking for death soon enough, she had to make a difference.
"Wha..t! Slavery?! Tongue.. W-ait! Why are you still hurting him! He's my friend! My...king, you're only proving that you are nothing more then a violent warlord."

"Well I am a violent warlord." King Sombra replied nonchalantly, hovering the hammer over Night's face; threatening to knock his teeth out or whack him in the eye, simply because it's fun.
"And to answer your question, I'm keeping your friend. He's fighting for me in the arena, and wings are strictly prohibited.... you know, now that I think about it... I'll keep you too." Sombra says, looking to the mare, still holding his hammer, "What kind of spells can you cast with that horn of yours? Any fighting spells?"

"B-ut, hes not in any condition to fight"
Speechless to his words, Ruby tried to mumble out a response. She was young, and in a nation full of dark magic. Sadly, all the mare could do was levitate a paint brush and draw on her canvas stand back at home. Home, something she wasn't familiar with for awhile as her horn attempted to light up with some struggle to her exhausted state. Shaking her head with drooped ears, the bright coated unicorn tried to talk her way out of this one, terrified as per the usual. Her nervous posture and speech was shaky and soft, in a different setting, some might call it adorable, here it was dangerous.
"I..um.. I c-an learn.. If you can teach me.. I know levitation. And um, turning paint different colors..."

King Sombra thought for a moment, then shook his head and batted his hammer at her dismissively, "Nah." he responded, focusing in on Night again, thinking of what he could do to break the bat just a bit for fun.
"It just means you won't last very long in the arena. I hope you're a fast runner; Crystal-Lions very much enjoy a good chase." King Sombra informs her, forcing both of Night's eyes open with his hooves and staring deeply into his glowing eyes; trying to figure out what makes the bat tick.

Night looks over at the young mare; she'd get eaten alive out there. There was no way in Tartarus that Sombra would teach her how to fight, so he had little choice.
"Fine, I'll teach her how to fight then! I've trained in Saddle Arabia in the Orin temple, and priorly with the Lunar Guard.... "
He winces slightly when Sombra forcibly opens his glowing eyes. It was clear that he couldn't appeal to the tyrant's emotions, but maybe he could appeal to his reason.
"Now please, if you permit it, we have a lot of training to do. I'll be no use to you against Chrysalis' warrior if you break me in a torture room. "

"MMmmmmmmmmmn...." King Sombra hummed, thinking deeply and staring into Night's eyes, trying to get a read on him. He soon gave up and got off him. He grabbed a black crystal shard and forced open Night's mouth.
"Very well. You and the mare can do what you like until the time comes for the arena. You, however, will have to swallow this." Sombra states firmly, clearly not willing to negotiate on Night swallowing the shard. Just as he was about to shove the shard down Night's throat, it glowed red, then green, then purple. Sombra groaned and magically levitated the crystal to his ear, still holding Night's mouth open.
"Ugh, what is it now? I'm busy." Sombra speaks into the crystal, glancing from Night to the crystal. He waits for a moment, listing to a speech being read to him. He takes one of his hooves and mimics someone talking with it, rolling his eyes.
Once he's finished listening, he says: "Hmn... alright... where are you? I assume my Umbrum Shadow Guards are near your position, is that correct?" he then gasps and chuckles, "Oh wait, silly me - my mind slips - I can just look through the crystal, one moment!" to which he then levitates the crystal in front of his eye and stares for a moment.
Afterwards, he gets off of Night and walks away, focusing more on the crystal-call, "Perfect. Now, how much would your - uhm - 'King Spirit Whispers' pay for your Princesses ransom? I just wanted to ask you before killing you. Sorry for not being there myself - heh - you know how a busy schedule can just tie you up, though to be honest I'm not busy -- I just don't feel like trotting down all those stairs just to see you get punched full of holes and get blood on my cape."
Sombra sighs as his last nerve is struck with even more talking, "Ugh, yap-yap-yap, is that all you do? Talk?" Sombra groans, closing his eyes and rubbing his temples. He takes a moment and gathers his breath, "That's it, I don't have the energy for this, GUARDS! KILL THEM ALL -- BUT DON'T HARM THE GIRL! BRING HER TO ME -- OR WHATEVER!" he shouts, before throwing the crystal against the wall for it to shatter.
He rubbed his temples more and huffed, then looked to Night, "Right, sorry about that. Where were we?"

Night Whisper had no desire to swallow that shard. There was no doubt in his mind that it was a tracker, or some sort of mind control device... Though knowing Sombra, it was likely something much more sinister. He was about to sink his sharp fangs into Sombra's hoof, until the tyrant pulled away. Thinking about it for a second, Night probably dodged an arrow. Getting his fangs pryed out seemed almost as undesirable as swallowing whatever that crystal was.
The bat looked on at Sombra somewhat dumbfounded. What the hay was he talking about? By the sounds of it, something nasty was going down on the lower levels of the castle. When Sombra looked back at him, Night room this as an opportunity to possibly avoid swallowing that Crystal.
He was already out of breath with bloodshot eyes, so there was no need to simulate that. Night began to gag and cough, as if he had just been force fed something.

[Enter Two Umbrum guards and Lilith]
There was a knock on the door to inform Sombra that someone was about to enter. There was a few moments of silence, then the doors opened, and the young Princess known as Lilith was shoved into the room, with an Umbrum trotting in behind her, and the door closing behind the guard.

Lilith was soon brought to the room. The pegasus mare looked in horror of the torture devices. Soon she was shoved in, rudely. She was about to bark a compliant but then she remembered it wasn't her castle. She looked over to see the shadow king himself. She looked a bit worrisome. Lilith might as well short with the formalities. "Hello, my name is Lilith." She said smiling softly. "I've heard much about you. It's really nice to meet you for the first time..."

Sombra looked at Night, raising an eyebrow. Did he shove the crystal down his throat and it slipped his mind? Perhaps -
His attention was ripped away from him as he heard the knocking at the door. He wiped off the blood from his face and made himself slightly more presentable. Once the Princess entered, he gave a small nod and glanced to the Umbrum guard.
"Yes yes, blah blah blah," King Sombra responded impatiently, batting a dismissive hoof at her, "How strong is your kingdom? Are they a foe to be feared? Will your father send me money and soldiers?"

Did... Did that actually work? Did Night just fool Sombra? He wasn't going to say a word, not a damn word. He stole a quick glance at the newcomer, but otherwise pretended to ignore her. If Night was going to get out of this without further injury, he needed to stay beneath Sombra's interest.

Lilith took the moment to look at the bat pony, them at him. She automatically thought he was torturing a traitor to his empire. So she did not question him, and easily dismissed him. "One of the strongest in the western side of this world, yes very much so, and it all depends on how relations turn out...So far you're doing a pretty bad job. If you wanted soldiers to be sent you should have kept my caravan alive. My lead guard would have went back home and gave word that you needed something." Lilith simply responded. "Anything else, dear?"

Keeping relatively silent to the side of the room, her dark red eyes never seemed to leave Night's frame as her mental process clicked onto his plans. He was a clever one. Amazed that the king would allow him to teach her the basics of fighting, Ruby Rose felt a wave of relief. He was still tied down, but at least a distraction helped get them closer to freedom. Turning to the new pony in the room, the teenage unicorn said nothing, she did however bow to be polite.

King Sombra gave a shrug, figuring me might as well have asked. His horn glowed and he magically grabbed the tiara from Lilith's head, tossing it to the Umbrum guard who was not fast enough to catch it. The tiara shattered against the Umbrum's face, and it looked down slightly in shame.
Sombra gave a small huff and batted a hoof at the guard, "I haven't had a good war in a while, I've missed being able to swing my hammer, and this is the perfect opportunity to test out my Umbrum on the battlefield! Send every one of the dead guards heads back to wherever they came from, then slaughter some mare around Lilith's age and skin its head. It should be rotted beyond recognition by the time it gets there -- and kill a dog and send that too, let him interpreter it as he will. Also -- send what's left of that tiara. I do keep forgetting that you guys aren't as fast as me, sorry"

Lilith opened her mouth to say something, but soon kept it shut. She wanted him to believe that she was still useful. He didn't seem like the kind of king who would want a heir. All though, Lilith pouted slightly as he removed her tiara. She actually liked that tiara! "Um, you do realize that I am just cargo, and not the messager correct? You killed him. I'd thought the king of the Crystal Empire would realize this. I don't know where Epona is, the guards I was with do and you killed them." It was better then telling him 'They dumped me here and they're just going to ignore everything you send.' The last Lilith wants to be seen by this mad man was dead weight. "However." She began. "I can see into the future. If the odds are in your favor I'd know in a heart beat."

King Sombra rubbed his temples, her talking only adding to a slight headache that her guard gave her with the scroll, "Where did you come from again? Talk-opia?" he hisses, batting another hoof at the guard, who carefully collects the tiara in a scooper and trots out of the room to do as Sombra commanded.
The last thing she said did manage to catch his interest. He knew that seeing into the future was possible; the Crystal Heart did it when he was just a colt... Sombra rubbed his temples harder; remembering that far back often made Sombra a bit nauseous and headache-y.
"Well if you can see in the future, tell me what will happen with this bat." Sombra demanded, looking over to the tied up bat.
