The dogtags of his lost packmates. (five in total. Four of his packmates, and his own.)
History:
Setting: A cold, dimly lit room. Armor is sitting in the corner
[Enter: A doctor-looking pony, with a notepad]
"Are you Mister," the pony looks down at his notepad, "Crimson Sky?"
"No. Not anymore." Armor spoke with a low, slightly angered tone.
The other pony took a step back and spoke. "Please explain this."
Armor growled lightly. "Why are you here? What's your goal in talking to me?"
The pony sat down in the corner opposite Armor. "Well sir, I have been sent here to determine your mental state. The Captain wants to know if you are in mental shape to fight or not."
Armor sighed and shook his head. "No. I'm not. There you go."
"Well would you mind telling me why?"
"Yes."
The pony sighed in frustration. "How about you start at the very beginning, as far back as you can remember?"
"Fine. The earliest thing I can remember is my parents fighting. They were arguing over.. Something. I was only, maybe two or three. Next thing I can remember is Astral coming home. After that, not much. Around age six, I remember grabbing Astral and running away from home. My parents were fighting again and my dad nearly hit Astral with a table, so I grabbed him and we ran. Turns out we weren't the only ones who ran out that night. As if by fate, we managed to meet up with the twins that night. So the four of us-"
"The twins?"
Armor sighs. "Cobalt Gadget and Mithril Gizmo. Age 5 at the time. Anyway, the four of us found shelter that night. Few weeks later, we found Onyx and Agate Mind. Ages 5 and 3, respectively. They got kicked out of their foster home. Couple months later, we picked up Prism. Full name Prismatic Sunrise, age 4. He had been on the streets for as long as Astral and I, we just hadn't ever crossed paths." He stops and hits his head against the wall.
"What was that for?"
"I forgot Aurora. Lunar Aurora was his name. Older brother of Prism. Age 6 at the time. Anyway, a few weeks later, we picked up Iron Ire, age 4, and Sunlit Rhyme, age 3."
"And then what?"
"Well, we lived on the streets of Cloudsdale for years. We had no real worries at all. That was, until I was about 16. You see, ponies in the town stopped being so generous. We started struggling to buy food every night. There was an uncountable number of nights that I went to sleep hungry. But I didn't care. As long as the younger pack members-"
"Pack?"
Armor groaned. "That's what we called it. Anyway, I didn't care. As long as the younger pack members ate, that was all that mattered to me. We managed to survive until I was 18. At that time, Cloudsdale cleaned up its streets, which meant we had to leave. We reluctantly did so, and pointed ourselves in the direction of Canterlot."
"Why though?"
"Simple. It was the only other place we knew about. We showed up, and immidiately got a bunch of money, more than we knew what to do with. Turns out, Canterlot is a good place to live if you're homeless. Anyway, we saved up the excess money for an entire year, and then some, then I used it to buy us a house."
"Do you remember the address? No reason, just wondering."
"12 Eclipse Alley. Anyway, I turned 20 while we lived in that house. I was out walking around one day when I noticed that the minimum age requirement to enroll in the guard was only 18. I went home that night and told the others. The six of us that were old enough signed up the next day. A few weeks later, we got accepted and had to move out..." Armor sighed.
"What?"
"We left those four on their own. I wonder what happened to them... Anyway, the six of us went through the enrollment process. The twins chose to join the Solar guard, and the other four of us went into the Lunar guard. I'm sure you can figure out what happened beyond that."
"Indeed I can. Before we go on to more recent events, it says here that you almost became a Wonderbolt. Care to explain?"
Armor chuckled. "A bunch of my guard buddies dared me to sign up, so I did. Barely missed by one point. Ooh well."
The pony chuckled as well. "I see. Now. Onto what has you like you are."
Armor sighed. "Alright. I guess it starts with the twins' deaths. You see, they loved tinkering with things. After they joined the Solar guard, they were assigned to do exactly that. However, one of Celestia's new machines for her troops literally blew up in their faces. That was the day I met Celestia and Luna. I got to keep their tags, which I always carry with me."
"What else has you like this?"
"Well, during a training battle, some genius threw an actual live grenade that killed Iron. I got to keep his tag as well. Aurora died from a small changling ambush. Same thing there. And from what I've heard, Onyx quit the guard not even a year into his service."
"That's all?"
"For the most part, yeah. I guess I'm just feeling depressed being alone.."
"Well, do you have any regrets about anything?"
"I guess not telling Astral that I'm his brother.. But it's too late for that now.."
"Anything else?"
"Nope."
"Care to explain why you attacked your fellow guardspony in the cafeteria earlier?"
"He insulted my past. Called me a nopony. I just lost my temper."
"Right then. I'll give the Captain my report, and we'll see what he wants to do from there." The pony stood up and left, but then turned back around and poked his head back in. "If you're not Crimson Sky anymore, what is your name?"
"Armor Wing."
Armor woke up in his little makeshift tent in the Everfree Forest, memories of why he was there flooding his mind. "Ooh yeah.. Changelings.. Outnumbered.. Hid here. Looks safe now. I guess I'm gonna go get a move on with my life." He had gone to sleep, more of a coma, three days earlier as Crimson Sky, and now had woken up as Armor Wing. Not knowing what made him change his name, Armor took to the sky in search of a new life. This is where his story begins on Battle Equestria.
