Mane: Jet black.
Eyes: Violet.
Living Relatives: None.
General Description: He is of average height and slim build. He has a short jet-black mane and tail, which is slightly spiky closer to the base due to layering and being half as long as a mare’s tail. His mane is generally styled carefully to appear messy but acceptable for formal occasions. He has violet eyes and an expressive face, though he seems to default to a serious expression and a focused gaze. His coat is a pale shade of lavender.
In terms of his personality, Noble has changed a lot over his lifetime. Five years prior, he held the somewhat arrogant viewpoint that his kind-hearted acts were a privilege that only those who held power were able to possess without cost. As such, he held a slightly theatrical manner and displayed his playful arrogance to everpony. However, the war swiftly changed his personality and brought him down from his lofty heights in the wake of his brothers' deaths. And losing the war left him with the difficult dilemna of selling out his pride and potentially shaming himself to continue his work, or bow out of the arms dealing business to preserve his honor. Choosing the latter completed his transformation and left him humbled and reserved, speaking softly and helping others without thought for himself, as opposed to being proud and boastful. This and his prior loss of family, along with his friends either dead or scattered to the winds, left him with a feeling of loneliness and isolation, which fuels his occasional moodswings and bouts of anger. Despite this, he tries to retain his kind heart and honorable mentality, since his honor is all he has left.
To combat the injustices, campaign for the rights of the common pony and, if necessary, remove a tyrannical ruler, Noble fashioned a secret identity. Calling himself Artorias, named for a particularly noble and self-sacrificing historical knight, Noble turns up the drama and theatrics, using any trick he is able to put together in order to seem mysterious, like he can be anypony.
Skills: Noble is trained in classical swordsmanship, and has a great deal of talent in magic, with his particular specialty lying in Enchantments, with Illusions being a side school. Noble is aware of his physical limitations and thus makes use of his Unicorn abilities to cover as many of his weaknesses as he can think of, provided his stamina allows him to. This makes his mind a greater weapon than any he wields, due to his analytical mindset and the double-edged sword of thinking several steps ahead. Noble has only recently learned a new stage in his enchanting abilities, creating 'logic chains' of a cause leading to an effect, which leads to how he's improved his personal gear. Thus far, due to it being a relatively new trick, he has only done extensive work on his sword, and that was mostly due to luck, though he plans to steadily increase his effectiveness as he learns more about his new talents.
Faults: His spells are limited in potency for any school outside of his enchanting, and to a lesser degree, Illusion, forcing him to make up for it in other ways, which he is still trying to do. He is still inexperienced with his new level of enchanting powers, thus limiting him in terms of what he can sustain without draining days, months or possibly years off his life. In addition, his progress is slowed by the fact he has not aligned himself with the current Queen, which limits his access to resources. As such, he can only use what he discovered on his own.
While Noble's mind is his most dangerous asset, it is also a weakness. His habit of thinking several steps ahead can lead him to unwittingly undermining his own plans by making them too specific, not picking up on something in time due to planning the next phase simultaneously with the current phase, or simply planning too far ahead. He can also sometimes be too proud to seek help or allow others to help him at first, forcing him to swallow his pride and finally allow others in and deal with his lingering issues.
Equipment: Noble carries a silver-alloy longsword (a gift from his brother), which is enchanted with a durability enchantment that prevents it breaking, along with an absorb and store effect that triggers when a slashing motion is used on a spell. The energy is then stored within an Amethyst set into the hilt of the sword. He has a small pouch of enchanted crystals, which are used for a variety of things, mostly serving as a quick healing item in the event that Noble is ever seriously injured. To achieve this effect, he 'drinks' the mana stored inside, which rejuvenates his body and restores a measure of his mana. He conceals his face and identity through a mask with an enchantment to amplify and disguise his voice while also being incredibly durable. He is also decked out in a suit of leather armour and a cape. His armour is enchanted with the same durability. The cape is similarly enchanted, allowing him to glide for a time, along with the durability enchant pervasive in all of Noble's gear.
Quantity of Crystals: 4/4
History: Noble is the oldest out of a trio of brothers born into a noble family in Canterlot, and the only unicorn among them. Out of the three, he was the studious type, dedicating himself to studying and managing family affairs. In his free time, he would read historical stories and fairy tales about knights and great beasts during the days of Discord’s reign.
During his younger days, he usually took charge of his brothers, leading them into various schemes of his. As young colts, it tended to be raids on the kitchen and using their combined skills to successfully reach the cookie jar. Noble also discovered a fondness for acting and would often try to act out stories and play pretend with his brothers, though he took it further and fashioned an entire code of honour that he would use to guide his actions, though it underwent changes as he grew older and began to understand the concept better.
In his early teen years, Noble expressed an interest in swordsmanship and took it up as a hobby, with his brother taking up blacksmithing as well. He spent several years practicing until he’d perfected his style and found a taste for the longsword. He continued to practice his style to ensure his skills don’t dull and it serves as good exercise. He also became more active in general, though he began to feel trapped by his family legacy and ran away from home for a time at the age of 17, saying a tearful goodbye to his brothers when they caught him sneaking out.
Frustrated at being a ‘Blank Flank’ for far longer than most and looking for a purpose to his life, Noble began to travel Equestria, running into a wandering writer named Aegis Dare, with whom he travelled for a time. The two formed a friendship and Noble found a measure of inner peace with the revelation that there are two sides to him, aided by the more patient and calm Aegis. The loving brother he was and the adventurer he was becoming. After his first adventure, Noble returned to Canterlot bearing his Cutie Mark and a fresh perspective on his life, though he returned to find his parents had passed away. Initially upset that he hadn't been there to say goodbye, his friends and brothers helped him accept their passing.
Noble had returned home a changed pony, no longer viewing his family name as a burden. Instead, he viewed it as a gift. A noble lineage to be given to the worthiest son. As such, he gave up his position and passed it to his younger brother, defying tradition and renouncing his claim to leadership of the family, as he believed he was not worthy of it. It was at this time he received the sword he carries to this day, forged by his brother. After this, he left Canterlot once more and continued his adventures with Aegis for the next 2 years.
On his return to Canterlot, he set up a business of his own with money he accumulated from his inheritance and the proceeds from selling various artifacts and paintings to collectors and museums. He hired blacksmiths with a need for work, and gave them a job making tools and weapons. During this time, he was a supplier for the Royal Guard, and began to hone his natural skill in enchanting, becoming skilled enough to bind spells into crystals. Fascinated by what he could do, he began to pursue more magical knowledge, perfecting yet more of his craft.
5 years later...
During the war, Noble continued producing weapons for the guard. This flared up his old internal conflict, as he felt it was his duty to be out there on the frontlines with the other fighters, but he also felt it was his duty to remain in Canterlot and provide the equipment they needed at the time. However, tragedy struck when a messenger from the Royal Army delivered horrible news. His brothers were killed in action. Devastated by this news, Noble began to descend into grief and anger, blaming himself for not being out there on the front lines with them.
He grew bitter for a time close to the end, when it became apparent that they were losing the war. By the end, he'd accepted their deaths and discovered the identity of the one responsible. He also had an idea of the total deaths in the war. Finally, with the Princesses and most of their heroes dead or missing, Noble saw a dark time ahead. Their new rulers would not be kind. He saw injustice and cruelty on the streets, angered by the arrogance of the new regime that they dared claim to represent the masses. Vowing to fight for the weak and punish the guilty, Noble began planning his own crusade for justice. The war was over...for most. For Noble, it never truly ended.
