Keepsake-Cavern
This magical cavern contains a library of precious items that may have once been common but are now rare from the destruction of war, such as books, art, and historical or royal objects brought to the camp by refugees who salvaged them. Always guarded just outside its interior, this chamber is open for all camp ponies to browse at any time of the day, but nothing is allowed to leave the cave without special permission.

[Enter Moon from Medical Grotto]
After just a little bit of walking through caverns that made up the camp, Moon and company entered yet another grotto. They were greeted by the two guards at the front, them giving the camp doctor a knowing nod, which he returned. He was a common sight in this part of the camp after all and as both the camp doctor and the closest thing that came to a curator of this place, he did have some special privileges. When he entered the cavern, those with him if they looked closely would be able to see the slightest of changes in his demeanour. He got just a little bit calmer, a little bit more relaxed as they stepped into the cave, which besides them and the guards was empty at the moment.
And it wouldn't be too hard to figure out why if you knew the unicorn, as laying on simply-made wooden bookcases and shelves were books. And not just books, but trinkets, statuettes, a few paintings and the like. Relics from a lost time. After a few moments, Moon turned back around to look at the two, looking for their reactions to this place.

"Well Moon it sure looks like you are trying to rebuild a library in here, I'll make sure to find you some more books" Trixie smiled walking over examining the things there a bit. Though this did make her think about the amulet in her saddle bags. She defiantly didn't feel safe leaving it in here. She looked to Moon with a smile and a small nod.

[Enter Tarascha from Medical Grotto]
At first glance at the guards, Tara had initially stopped his movements, just seconds from bolting away again before realizing that he technically had done nothing wrong in the camp and that Moon wouldn't have any reason to hoof him over to the guard for illegal activity...yet.
When he spotted the nod Moonlight gave the guards and their following reactions, he carefully entered the room behind the two guards as well, his eyebrows quickly rising as he looked around the room in silence in the beginning. After the first few seconds, he moved his hood back a little to allow his eyes to see more of the area around him. This was a teasure hunters dream. Trinkets, books, everything else one could sell for a nice price to the right ponies. A little voice inside his head told him to maybe bag one or two of the smaller things but that voice was quickly hushed as another, bigger voice took its place in his head. Curiosity.
"Does all of this belong to you Moon? I didn't take you for a horder."

Moon chuckled a little at the commentary he got from the two, though the look on his face was still a bit thoughtful and pondering in the environment they were in. "Oh, wouldn't that be something? But no, this does not all belong to me, nor am I trying to rebuild a library." He said as he stepped in farther into the cave, looking around him. "No, this is the Keepsake cavern. This most of the personal belongings of those here in camp. A place to store them... and where everypony can come to look at them."
He at that stepped up to a shelf, and took out the book he had received from Tara. He regarded it for a few moments before he neatly put it into the shelf, next to some other books. "I know it isn't the optimal environment for keeping things, but I've tried to make some sort of catalogue of whose things are whose." He then turned around back to them, a small but genuine smile on him. "For those years I travelled, I never saw anything like this... You probably haven't thought about this as much as me but... This is a piece of Equestria right here. Its culture, lost elsewhere, can be found here. Only snippets maybe but... it's something." He gave them another small smile at that. His voice had been thoughtful, and it was rather obvious that this was pretty important to him.

"Well Moon, it looks great. I can see the bits of Equestria how they used to be in here an it is.. Nice. I'm kind of glad I opted not to put the amulet in here it would.." She paused for a moment "Darken the place, it wouldn't feel the same."
Trixie slowly brought out the Alicorn Amulet from her saddle bags placing it in her own hoof, staring at it for a moment. It still held no power, it just held painful memories that she could only wish away.

"Ain't that a surprise. Moonlight the historian, keeping Equestrias history save for anypony interested." He let out a dry, little chuckle while passing between some of the wooden shelves with the items on them. If somepony was focused on his face, he or she might notice a certain look of pure longing for some of the trinkets, books and statues. After years on the road, he knew damn well how much some of those were worth if he managed to get them sold. Only his companionship with Moon and some respect for the ponies that lived inside these caves stopped him from sneaking the desired objects out with him.
He threw the amulet in Trixie's hoof a quick glance too but taking that didn't even cross his mind. He knew he would never be able to take it from her, nor would he be able to sell it somewhere. An item like that was too hot to move around, even for him. He did not desire to spend the rest of his days in the Queen's dungeon between murderers and even worse criminals.

Moon nodded, walking up to another book that was placed on a small table. Picking up the pen that lay next to it then, he opened it and began writing something. And that something was the book he had just put in, noting down when it had been put there and who it belonged to. A much better way to keep track of what belonged to who in this little piece of the old Equestria. "Hey now, it's only a small bit of this here that I added myself. Some of the books we found while we were... on the road. Most of this, the ponies of the camp have provided. I've just organized what's here, a little side job I guess you could call it, besides being some kind of doctor to these ponies." He said in reply, finishing his little notation.
Moon then closed the book again and walked up to Trixie and the Amulet, knowing what Amulet she meant. "And well... it's your decision in the end. But, if you'd ask me, I would say that any artefact would be a welcome addition. That past is to be remembered, even the... darker parts. It's all part of Equestria's history. And it's like they say: those who forget their history, is doomed to repeat it." He took a little pause there and gave Trixie a gentle nudge. "But again, it's up to you." He added, wanting to make sure that he wasn't trying to make her keep it here. Just that he wanted to share his opinion on it.

"I appreciate it Moon, and as much as I'd love to do that I'm not going to. I have my reasons and I need to keep the amulet on me. I also have a theory I'd like to share with you later." Trixie said slowly putting the amulet away again glancing at Moon.
She walked around the cavern a bit and examined some of the stuff there with a soft smile. Seeing these kind of things again were pretty nice.

"It seems like you found a place to stay then, Moon. Are you planning to make this permanent or not? I could use some company for traveling again but it looks like you already got responsibilites now that you can't abandon." He tried to speak casually about this, careful enough to not show too much emotion. He didn't want to seem lonely and desperate after all but this question had lingered over him for some time now and it was better to get it out of the way quickly.
If Moon decided to join him for some time, then he would bring Trixie along, that was for sure. But at the same time, Tara already knew the answer to his question. The unicorn had found a place to stay, a place he possibly called home and he had ponies counting on him. The room around him was only another sign of the passion and care the unicorn doctor showed for the ponies in the camp and for the location as well. Still, can't blame a pony for trying.

Moon nodded a bit at Trixie and gave her a small smile at what she said. "Very well. And I'll be glad to listen to it later." He said in response to her before she walked further out into the cave. Moon's attention was then grabbed by the earth pony as he began to speak, and Moon approached him slightly, giving him a small nod and a small smile.
"I'm sorry, but no, I don't think I can just get up and leave this place. These ponies count on me and... well, I can't just abandon them." A small sigh left him after that however. "I... suppose I feel a bit bad over those still out there... Say, if you find anypony that seems trustworthy out there who needs, well, help, would you maybe be able to direct them towards here?" He asked, a bit carefully. To be honest, he wasn't sure if everyone in camp would condone such an idea, but... he had been out there for 4 years, healing ponies. If some of those poor souls would manage to find their way here, they would be better for it he wagered.

Trixie smiled at Moon's devotion to these ponies, it was something she loved about him. She then cast a glance to Tara and gave him a soft apologetic smile before speaking up to him. "You heard it Tara, Moon isn't going to budge. Though I suppose you already knew that before you even asked. Huh?"

"Hey, I'm not at stupid as I look. My body might have taken some hits but my mind is still mostly intact. It is obvious that Moon won't leave this place. Especially now that you are here as well. Heh, still was worth a try." He let out another of his dry, quiet chuckles to himself before coughing a little from the action, his leg having a little spasm as his body rocked thanks to the cough. He grit his teeth and stomped the hoof on the ground to force it back into submission.
After that little moment, he relaxed himself again and stopped gritting his teeth, facing Moon again to give him a half honest, half painful, crooked smile and a nod. "No promises about that Moon. I'll send trustworthy ponies close to this place but you need to have scouts around the area to find them. And be honest, do I look like the kind of pony others would trust if I told them about a secret safe haven in the middle of nowhere?"
He shook his head a little to let his mane go mildly more wild again, having it cover half of his face while trying his best villian smirk. The few scars here and there on his features did not help at all as they gave him in combination with the smirk and the wild mane a rather rougish and mean look for anypony looking at him.

While Moon would admit that the look Tara was making right now could be a bit intimidating, knowing that some of those very scars had been under his own treatment helped to make it all a bit less scary. That and the fact that he had travelled enough with the pony in question to know that on the inside, he was a good guy, or at least that's what he thought. He gave Tara a half-smile and a nod. "Well, I at least would appreciate if you tried. And yes, we do have scouting parties out and about every now and then. I mean, that's how they found me after all."
He gave off a slight sigh as he thought about that particular instance for a moment. Not exactly pleasant memories after all. But, that was in the past. With a slight shake of his head, he looked out over the two there. "But yes, I don't think there was anything more I wanted to show you. So ah... shall we go look for Flux? He was the one with your weapons, yes?"

"I think we shall Moon, I should probably meet new ponies around camp anyways. Instead of hiding away with just you the entire time." She giggled a bit, she knew that question was directed to Tara, but she didn't care.
Honestly, she had still basically just gotten here and needed to figure out her way around here better. Also meeting new ponies wouldn't be so bad for her to do. Being around just one pony all the time could drive a pony crazy, even if it was the one you loved.

"Yes indeed the Flux pony took my weapons. I think he actually gave them away to a guard. Smart guy. Those aren't safe if you don't know how to carry them around. If somepony took them out of the leather sheats...you better know how to treat that." This time his tone was dead serious instead of just meant as sarcasm. Those knifes could knock out or kill many things they touched as the poison wasn't anything just any doctor could cure. But Tara had put an antidode somewhere in the book he gifted to Moon. Probably. He wasn't really sure anymore as he had been using that poison since the accident where he hurt his leg so the antidode was one of the first things he forced himself to remember.
"I thought I'd get my weapons back when I leave the camp though. Either that or talking to a pony called Genesee. Who exactly is that by the way? Captain of your guards?"
|

Post by Moonlight Scroll on Jul 12, 2016 12:39:56 GMT
Moon nodded rather seriously at Tara's statement. Poisonous weapons were no laughing matter, and it didn't help that he personally disliked its use. As if cutting somepone to pieces weren't enough, you also just turned your insides on yourself. While granted, some poisons were worse than others, they just didn't fit in well with Moon. Oh well, he knew every pony did what they had to nowadays, so no idea to try and turn Tara away from that.
"Ah, alight, seems fair. And yes, well, he's more like captain over everything if you catch my meaning. He's the leader over the camp. A good one too, if you don't mind my personal opinion." He said, giving Tara a slight smile. "Might be good for you too see him too Trixie. You still need to decide on a "role" here in camp. It's ah, how we assign duties, you could say."

Trixie lets out a soft giggle "Who do you think lead me here Moonie. Though now that I've had time to settle I suppose I could ask him again. Remember I told him about my illusion magic and he wants to use it to hide the cave! Also he wants me to train the unicorns I do believe. He did witness my gravity magic first hoof"
Trixie continued with a soft smile proud that she was needed somewhere for something again. It felt a lot more normal than anything else did recently.

"Leader of the camp...suppose it's fair he knows who is currently running around his camp and who isn't. And we should warn him about my knifes. Dont want to be blamed later if somepony hurts himself with that." Or rather ends their own lifes by handling the knifes wrong. That would be the last thing Tara needed at the moment. Getting blamed for a death of a guard or somepony important.
"Say Moon, you've been in the camp a little longer already, right? So you know which ponies live around the camp with you being a doctor and all." It was easy to notice that his whole body language and speech pattern has changed for that sentence. He went from slightly relaxed to a guarded and very careful state, his hoof twitching as the desire to hide in his hood grew stronger by the second

Moon hummed a bit and gave Trixie a pleasant smile. "Sounds like you have an idea of what to be then. And we can always use more trainers, especially in magic, I reckon." He said, glad that she was glad. And glad that she seemed to beh appy to be somewhere she was needed again.
Moon then turned to Tara, his eyebrows raising slightly at his peculiar question. "That would be fair. And well, I suppose. Every pony needs a check-up every once in a while. I ah, wouldn't say I know everypony but you could say that I know off, yes? But ah, anypony in particular you are looking for?" He asked curiously but carefully, noticing the earth pony's change in demeanour quite easily. It was pretty obvious that he wanted to ask for somepony, though he wasn't sure which it would be.

"A mare. Unicorn. Pink fur and deep green mane and tail. Specialised in illusion magic. Could work as an actor perhaps." He cut all his sentences short on purpose, trying to reveal as little as possible about the pony he was looking for. But he couldn't pass out on an opportunity like that. A whole new camp full of ponies so maybe she could be one of them, hiding here and helping the ponies out. That seemed like a thing she might do.
But then again, he had the same hope in every other camp or city he visited as well. But she was nowhere to be found bor has anypony seen her. She could very well be dead for all he knew as his last lead for her was more than two years old.
With a shimmer of nervousness but also hope he slowly gave the doctor a pleading look, his real feelings and emotions shining through his eyes as a strong contrast to his body language and behaviour

Moon nodded again at Trixie, smiling pleasantly. "How lucky for our camp then." He said warmly before turning his attention towards the earth pony's description. And it had him pondering. The camp was large after all, about 500 ponies under one "roof", so to say, so pointing out a specific pony needed some thinking. But as he thought, no one pony came to mind that fitted all of these criteria. There were ponies with pink fur, and others with green manes. Some knew magic, and some few had indeed been actors before all of this. But one that fitted all of it... he drew a blank.
He sighed softly after several moments of pondering, giving Tara a sad look, as he saw the nervousness and hope in his eyes. "I'm... sorry Tara. I can't think of anypony like that." He said carefully. "But... this is a big camp, and I've only been around for a year so... I'm thinking you should ask Genesee. If anypony would know if somepony like that is here, then he would." He said, unsure whether it was right of him to give hope like this.

"Oh...right yes. Do not worry. That is fine. Let us proceed. Come on." He rather quickly shrugged it off and quickened his step as to run away from Moon or whatever was behind him. Tara knew it was a fruitless endeavour as always and it would probably always stay like that but maybe that Genesee guy had more information on the pony he tried to find.
Anyway, he would not show any of his disappointment to the other ponies. Disappointment meant weakness and a weak pony made and easy meal, socially but also literally. Under his cloak, he puffed out his chest to seem bigger and had a new goal. Find the alpha of the cave.

[Enter Pumpkin Vine]
Wall to wall, cave to cave, the warrior galloped through the camp with record speed. Skidding to a halt at the grey stallion into few before her, a slight twinge of anger had consumed her thoughts. What was HE doing here? Huffing and realizing she was going to have to let this go for now, Pumpkin stepped forward. Greeted by the guards and offering but a nod to their existance, she needed but a few minutes of their time.
"Moonlight Scroll! May I aquire your attention for a moment. I apologize in advance for my rude interruption." Urgent as it was, the tan pegasus had known better then to defy the common rule of hoof. Never interrupt what you do not understand. Due to the situation, Pumpkin could only hope the doctor would understand her urgency and forgive her in advance.

Moon frowned as Tara seemed to play these news off as if they were nothing. It seemed obvious to him that this, or rather, this mare, meant more to him then he wanted to let on. He just wished he could help, he really didn't recall anypony like that... oh well, there still was hope that Genesee might know. He didn't really have time to dwell more on this before Pumpkin Vine skid up in front of them, a very urgent look about her. He blinked in surprise at first for a few moments before his mind got a notion of the reason for this. There usually only was one reason for why somepony needed him in this in camp. "Already forgotten. What's the situation? Do you need me in the medical cavern?" He asked, his mind already gearing into his "doctor" mode.

Hating to be blunt, the older mare had tried to offer nothing but reason throughout her eyes. Years of watching this stallion work, Pumpkin couldn't picture the camp without him. Talented, fast and dedicated to his skills, having him on board certainly made her feel safer about the warriors they were training. To become a prepared soldier for war, it wasn't something every pony could endure. In fact, most of the camp would be slaughtered. They weren't ready. The ones that are? They may have a chance to protect this place, for the inevitable. Nodding to his words, she was right to come so quickly. "It's Aegis Dare, he has been stabbed in the arm. Deuterium has gone mad, I must go after him. I cannot allow him to spill the whereabouts of the camp site. For if he does, we are all in grave danger."

Tara instantly went quiet and looked between the two with a serious stare. Another emergency then for the doctor to handle. This was definitely not the life that Tara would have guessed for Moon. He had always thought the unicorn would perhaps chose something more quiet where he can concentrate on his work instead of tumbling from one emergency into another. Always hectic, always under stress...kinda similar to surviving outside of the caverns that surrounded them.
But did Tara want to live like this? If life in the caverns was this stressful and without rest all the time, then maybe leaving would be a better idea. If life inside and outside of the caverns was just as stressful, only with different challenges than it would be easier for the earth pony to just stick to his life in solitude in the wild. It has been a long time since he actually lived around other ponies and all his talents adapted to living alone and dealing with dangerous problems instead of the social-food chain in a group.
He still wasn't sure if he should leave or stay but no matter what his choice would be, he still had to talk to the leader of the camp first. With a shake of his head, he quietly made his exit away from Moon, Trixie and Pumpkin to search the leader on his own. Moon would be busy and Trixie would stick with her love so eventually he would end up alone anyway.

(Not to disappoint Tara, but)
Hearing the urgent new being brought to them by the pegasus that came bursting in Trixie became a little more alert finally having something interesting happen. When she heard a pony had been stabbed and another had gone mad fleeing the cavern Trixie automatically wanted to join in on any type of search to find him. She had developed decent tracking skills over the past few years away from Moon and she was certainly skilled enough to detain any pony if it were the case. After quickly thinking this through Trixie stepped up to the mare.
"No time for pleasantries I suppose, but the name is Trixie and I'd be glad to help you look for this.. Deuterium, I know what he looks like because I saw him in the cave earlier and I have some tracking skills. Also I can easily detain him without hurting him if we must. I'm a skilled mage" She couldn't help but boast a bit, after all she was Trixie and somethings like war never change.

Moon's face got serious as he took in what the situation was. Deuterium had gone mad? He had always seemed a certain sort of fellow but mad? Not quite. At least never so mad as to hurt somepony. As for assertions that came with it, he could but agree. The whole camp's safety lay in that its location was hidden from those that would do it, and in extension, all the ponies inside of it, harm. The seriousness of the situation was apparent for him. However, it was little he could do in a situation like this, he would have to let those capable do what they had to do. The situation with Aegis however was right in his field of expertise. Tending to the wounded is what he'd done for these past years after all.
Before he had spoken up in response though, Trixie had already done it. And her offer... worried him. It was perhaps an irrational fear however. He knew better than anypony that she would be capable, more capable than he'd ever be in a situation like that at least, that was for sure. It was more that she had just come here it felt like, and now she'd be putting herself in danger again... Well it didn't make life easier, that's for sure. So it was with a slight sigh that he spoke up, nodding slightly. "She is right, she is a very capable mage. I can attest for that." He however turned to look at her, giving her a worried look. "Just... be careful, okay?"
He then however swallowed, looking a bit more determined. "But right, you said Aegis was stabbed? Badly I suspect, or else you wouldn't need me. I presume he's in the medical cavern?" He said, already starting to make his way out of there. It was then however that he noticed the earth pony and how he tried to leave. That was like him alright, he thought with a light sigh as he trotted up to him. "Hey, sorry this had to be cut short, but find me if you decide to leave, alright? I think I at least deserve a good bye, no?" He said, a slight smile on him before he again thought of the task at hand. He so trotted on towards the exit of the cave, aiming to head to the medical cavern.
