The Queen's Off Day.
{Getting time off from her usual ruling of Equestria, the Queen of the Changelings is offered one free day every few months. While the others are spent on controlling and meeting up with subjects to ensure loyalty, this one day allows her to recollect with herself and just relax.. or so she thought.}
The sun rises upon the horizon as a grumbled and teal maned changeling mare slips out of the hard rock bed in a dragging motion. Hissing at the small rays of light shooting through the snake clothed blinds, the Queen slowly prepares herself for the day. Turning to the oval mirror hanging on the wall, appearance was never something Chrysalis cared that much about, but it still intrigued her. Fixing the stray strands of thin slightly wavy hair, it didn't take long for Chrysalis to reach the door. Stepping out and into the hallway, actually walking from place to place had felt so strange, not having to watch her back was indeed interesting. Walking past the row of changeling and creatures bowing to her hooves on the sidelines, the changeling Queen had held her head up high.
Reaching the outside and focusing on heading towards the bog for some peace and quiet relaxation, her voice barely spoke up as she intended to ignore the citizens and their petty problems of the day. To the bog, that's all she needed to get to..if only the crowds of subjects shopping and trying to please her with gifts didn't get in her way! Finally over the first batch of wavers, a part of the Queen could understand the princesses and the pain of being a leader with the public, everypony was so needy.
"Bubbling mud, oh how these hooves yearn for a dip in your warm welcoming embrace."

A small sleek shape shifted its way through the undergrowth of the blog. Unseen by the untrained eye, the stealthy figure's red-brown fur blended in to most environments. However, in a dreary swamp such as this, it helped to further conceal the sheen of the red fur hues by how soiled the creature's pelt had become. It had traveled far with little time to rest, leaving no time to clean it's hungry and frail body.
It was with high hopes of a lucky frog dinner that had guided this wilted creature into the bog today, and though his body was thin, he still stalked with pride and care. If one was going to hunt and expect a decent meal, then one must put their best effort forward no matter the circumstance and use the skills nature has so graciously bestowed.
Angling black pointed ears towards the sounds of stirring shore waters, a red fox, known to the ones who once knew him as Forest, crept low and soundless through the shady marsh reeds.

Stepping on a rotting branch, the snaps of the bark felt meaningless underneath her holed hooves as the Queen of the Changelings moved forward. Walking through the forest towards the very bog her mind continued to ramble about, the trees had begun to whisper as animals began to lurk, squirrels stalking from high end tree's as those within the grounds surface fled for fear of angering the beast approaching. Ignoring the nature, the bug Queen had begun to hum a creepy yet catchy tune as her pace soon reached her destination.
"At last."
Stepping inside the bubbling mass without the normal ponys fear of getting stuck, the alicorn let out a wondrous sigh as she sunk waist deep in the warm goo. Resting her upper arms over the grassy land behind her, it seemed almost peaceful as green orbs attempted to close for the first time in a while. Peace would be restored, the land would be hers, and her subjects would follow her every command without complaint.. Soon..

The ravenous fox fell to his belly as the sound of a snapping twig echoed through the bog. Being causious by nature, but also unbareably curious, Forest slunk to the cover of nearby bushes and began to slink towards where the sound had come from. A snapping twig could mean food or foe, but at this point in his starving state, the little fox was willing to be much more daring to fill the hole in his stomach.
He didn't have to go far before he had uncovered a space in the bog much different then the marshlands. Pools of natural gooey tar-like guck filled craters in the earth, it's scent making Forest's snout wrinkle. It was a dangerous place for most creatures to tread, but the young fox was not thinking straight through his hunger. The moment he saw a small green lump in the goo before him, he had sprang, only to discover that the leaf he now bit down upon was in fact not a frog, and that his front paw had become embedded into the black goo pool.
Trying to withdraw back to the safety of his bush,Forest let out a small yip, surprised and confused to find his left front paw was locked in the grips of the muck tightly. However, instead of struggling, the red fox froze and stared without flinching across the bog pool at another creature in the goo with him.

Ticking away at her cranium for better situations she could out smart the other leaders in, the Queen of the changelings had been all too quiet in her thoughts. Snapping out of her stupor, an intrigued expression spread over her once zen muzzle as the fog dimmed ever so slightly for a glimpse at the creature below. Amused at the small creature's dispute with its inner hunger, the holed and now lightly chuckling bug mare in the goo herself had rose slightly. Accustomed to such sticky substances, her body flowed through it like dirty bath water.
"My my, what do we have here? A vulpes in this type of environment? You must be desperate."
Emphasizing on her last word, the Queen of the changelings continued to grow closer and closer. Taking it slow and noting the fox's trapped state, a few different scenarios zoomed through the mare's mind, half tempted to try them all as more came on. Instead, trying to find a new part of herself from this equality, the changeling Queen reached the creature as a hoof went to rise Forest from the sticky dark and bubbling goo.
"Your drive for survival reminds me of my own. Yet unlike you, I succeeded. Will you?"

Forest's eyes went wide as the Queen reached down for him. A fleeting moment of the urge to fight or flee made his pumping blood roar in his ears, but he did neither. His hunger had swiped all the energy from his body, and now, he simply closed his eyes, folded his ears back and tucked his tail while he waited for what he thought would come; a killing blow.

Picking the creature up from the goo and placing him on her shoulder, the Queen had moved towards the edge. Stepping out of the bog and assuming he would jump down, the mare begun to walk towards the other side of town. Stopping in her tracks and admiring the foggy nature of the place, green orbs took in the scenery as her voice spoke before her mind could keep up.
"Its been so long since I've been in this land without being chased away. I just hope I can make a good leader, you know?"
Speaking to the fox as if he would listen, Chrysalis had placed a hoof to the nearest tree. Closing her eyes and allowing nature to tell her its tales, the trees bark had felt hard yet cool to the touch as she listened. Hating that she had a soft spot for nature and its animals, her vengeful actions had destroyed many forests and creatures throughout the war. Not regretting her actions for the bigger picture however, the Queen had been zoned out in her own thoughts as the time passed on.

To the little fox's surprise, the Queen had pulled him from his entrapment and he now found himself resting upon her haunches. For a moment, Forest blinked away his frozen state and slowly began to look around, as if he were coming too. His eyes had looked towards the ground to hop back to where he knew he was safe, but the Queen's words stopped him. Instead, his ears perked and he looked up to her eyes.
Silent for a moment, Forest shifted so that his paws tucked underneath his bushy chest fur and he gave a small huff in reply, licking his chops out of habit before panting, his anxious state before had made him hot, and he was still a bit nervous. However, years of being a companion to Moxie had made him a natural born listener, and right now his little mind saw that it was a time to listen. He stared with large blue eyes up at the Queen as if waiting for her to continue.

Admiring the fox and its listening ears, the Queen of the changelings had let out a sigh. He had indeed been frightened before, but with the winds of change approaching, would ponies be as considerate of her feelings and needs? Walking slowly through the bog in an absent minded gaze, the royal mare was getting everything she init ally set out for. Lingering at the edge of the forest and staring into the hopeless town of those fearful and scared, they weren't the only ones that night.
"I want to see them happy. But more importantly, I want to be the cause of their happiness. Perhaps in a different life, right?"
Lighting up her horn as her holed hooves moved from tree to grass, the once natural and blooming greens had begun to fold. Draining what she could of them and anything in her path, the lack of energy she retained from such plant killings were more so a mental battle for what was right and good. Shaking her head internally, birds that had gotten in her path were met with a cruel reminder of who she was suppose to be.
"This era needs a villain to do what others cant. They can blame me, I can take it. The world will be a much better place when I'm through with it."

Forest watched the leaves crumple around them and his ears tucked back in worry. Looking back up to the Queen's face, Forest let out a whine to draw her attention, and then let out a small whinny chatter, as if to ask her if that's really what she wanted. Was that really how it had to be?
The queen had rescued him without the need of malice, and now his company was offered in return. Not ever being would run from creature such as her if kindness was shown.

Shifting her elongated oval pupils to the fox's presence, the Queen merely offered a cold chuckle in response. Turning and pointing to the moon now rising and setting on its own, the secret spell she had managed to curse the solar system with was in fact nothing more then a miracle. Due to the three villains and their magic combined, Chrysalis fails to believe her magic did more then just enhance what the crystal heart was capable of.
"You see that? Princess Luna took ages to try and redeem her name and title back. That mare did everything and was still the one everyone feared. For a creature such as I to come in and try to be the good one? Ha. Don't make me laugh."
The Queen had begun to take the scenic route back towards the palace, wandering through the tall dying grass and gardens as her mind wandered on. With every holed step she took, the night time rays had only began to grow brighter. Amused that the creature had yet to run from her presence, the Queen shot a glance towards him in wonder.
"Why do you stay here so. If I wished, your forests and food could be lit up in flames. So why befriend the enemy?"

Forest stared up at her with steady eyes, merely blinking in reply. A long low growl sounded from his thin belly and vibrated slightly on the Queen's haunches. However, Forest never broke his gaze with the bug queen. It was clear that the fox could not give her a literal answer, but the innocence in his eyes was blatant. He had no reason to see her as an enemy when all she had done so far was help him.
