CName: Genesee Rover
Age: 56
Gender: Male
Species: Earth Pony
Place of Birth: White Tail Woods
Occupation: Leader of Camp New Hayven, previously the leader of a nomadic Earth Pony herd
Allegiance: To the princesses and to the idea of a world of free ponies living without fear
Relationship Status: Single
Appearance: Green eyes, white and grey mane and tail with dark brown shaggy fur and a muscular build
Living Relatives: Moxie Foxfeather, Wild Ranger (Ranger)
General Description: Genesee is a patient and calm senior stallion. Having lived most his life in the wild forests of Equestria, he is a weathered pony who is an experienced survivalist. His unbiased approach to all situations as well as his general moral stature has made him a loved leader by his herd and most of Camp New Hayven, however, his non-violent tendencies and camp direction to avoid involvement in the war is not always agreed with.
Faults: Genesee can be so passive to the point that some might think he should speak up to fight for his opinions in a situation that might call for it. He tends to neglect his own personal care on occasion, his attention focused more on pressing camp priorities and the ponies under his leadership, and is known to often go days without fixing his rugged mane or taking the time to sit down and eat a decent meal. His age has also weekend his eyesight, slowed his gate and has left him with aches and pains in his joints most evenings.
Skills: Though he may avoid any situation that might involved physical brutality, Genesee is a seasoned veteran of hoof to hoof combat once required to protect his herd, and will selflessly put his life on the line to face an enemy that threatens the ponies he has sworn to protect. His more known skills involve his ability to lead and rally ponies together in times of great need and often gives ponies who have lost everything hope. He's gentle, encouraging voice often influences trust in ponies. He often poses as an advisor to those who seek his counsel in private and always puts their needs above his own, never talking about himself unless asked.
Equipment: Genesee often carries a knife that serves a variety of purposes for survival as well as a leather canteen. He relies on his natural earth pony strength and sharp hooves he was born with to defend himself and others against enemy ponies and beasts if needed.
History: Very little is known of Genesee's history; he often doesn't share much of his past with others unless asked, and even then he doesn't elaborate past more than what was demanded. Most ponies simply know that he was a leader of a nomadic forest-dwelling herd of earth ponies committed to living off the land and not depending on the material luxuries of modern civilization. Though many members of the original herd lived the limited herd life to make a point against gluttony and greed, Genesee had always simply just enjoyed the natural environment, herd kinship, and the joy and pride of providing for himself.
Good friends of Genesee know that years ago he had fallen in love with a yellow and white pegasus mare that had happened upon his small herd outside a quaint town along the edges of the White Tail Woods. Taken by her spirit and passionate views on the world, the pegasus mare was the only thing in the world that had ever lead Genesee to stray from his beloved herd kin. For a time, Genesee left the life he had always known to live as a small town pony off the edge of the woods to start a family with the mare that had stolen his heart.
The two were casually married, and in a few years time, Genesee had fathered an earth pony colt named Wild Range, and a few years later a pagasus filly named Moxie. For a time, life was bliss, but the arrival of the filly had planted a dark seed in his wife Genesee had never understood. Denying her slow slip into a pony he didnt even recognize, Genesee was taken by surprise when a day came that his once loving wife unleashed a terrible truth upon him.
Genesee would never relive the tale beyond this to any pony. He would shut down the conversation, saying it was a story nopony needed to hear. Maybe he secretly never wished to re-live the pain, or maybe he believed it was a family skeleton to be swept deep under the rug. What is known is that day, Genesee returned home from the woods to find that his wife had abandoned him and his young son, disappearing without a trace and taking Moxie from them both.
After waiting for months for any sign of their return, Genesee finally came to terms with the fact that his wife was never coming back, and that Moxie was gone. Cursed to forever contemplate the cause and effect of his wife's mental state and her last actions, Genesee tried to move on and be the father his son needed him to be. The best thing for him to do now was to give Ranger a happy life, free from the pain of the world. Genesee took his young son to live the wild herd life that he had always loved, wanting to reclaim that joy he once had and to share it with his son.
Genesee raised Ranger as a member of the earth pony herd, and as the years passed, Genesee was elected leader of the growing forest herd. His son grew into a fine stallion, and eventually set off on his own to see the world and to live in the wilds the way he believed a pony should. Genesee saw the adventurous spirit from the mare he had once loved shining within the young stallion, and though he was saddened to let him go, he gave his blessing for his son's departure and found pride in knowing that his son marched to his own tune.
