Refugee Camp - Camp New Hayven
Original purpose of establishment: to give sanctuary to any pony in need. This camp was made to offer an alternative life and remove and protect ponies from the horrors of war.
Location: Secretly hidden deep inside the little-known natural cavern system of the Smoky Mountain Range
Leader/Founder: Genesee Rover (an experienced survivalist and herd leader before the war, Earth Pony)
So, you want to join the camp? There are a few things you need to know:
1) Read what you can expect from both the forum section and from camp life (below).
2) Pick your Primary Role and post it in your Character OC sheet to be reviewed for approval, also make note of the secondary daily roles your character will be apart of for your own knowledge.
3) Pick your Divisions for ALL opinion categories and post it in the bottom section of your OC sheet.
4) Read the History of Camp New Hayven to fully integrate with camp lifestyle.
5) Private Message Genesee or Moxie to let them know you will be joining camp so they can help you get set up, answer questions, brainstorm a camp backstory/integration if needed, as well as to approve your Primary Role choice.
What can I expect in this forum section?
This camp is a great location for those who wish to RP their own OC stories within camp life. Mod driven events will be limited in this forum section – used to only challenge the state of mind in camp, so don't expect a mod to give you something to do here! You need to create your OWN adventures with other players in this section. Expect drama! Stories with no drama just get boring, so don't be afraid to rile up others here! Need ideas for what to do? Here are some things to consider:
1) Use your daily duties to keep your own story rolling, use your imagination to really make use of those yucky chores you might not find so fun as a scene to maybe get to know another player doing it with you.
2) Use your Primary duty as settings to develop your character. Your Primary role should be something you want your character to gain new skills in. As they carry out their role, give your character and fellow players obstacles to face that they may run into in that role, give them ways to help or learn from others to build friendships. In return, other players should create obstacles or problems to overcome with you as well. It's equal give and take here, keep it balanced!
3) Use the politics and differing opinions (divisions) of the camp as fuel for debates, conversations, or for actionable ideas and plans with others. Create some drama to get ponies moving! Camp life should have plenty of drama!
What can I expect as Camp Life?
An example of daily routine for camp life would run as follows:
Waking up for an early battle training session, you hardly have time to shake off the sleep in your eyes before you race out for your primary role in Perimeter Patrol. By mid-day, the perimeter has been adequately secured and you continue on to exploring a new western cave and test for safety. After a run in with a close call from a falling stalagmite, you end your shift by getting a late lunch with a friend in the camp commons where a ration of wild hay and carrots are portioned out to you both. Later that day you switch secondary roles with another camp member in order to be with a close friend for Foal and Elderly Care, allowing time to be able to talk and catch up while watching over little ones and helping the elderly with random tasks. You end your day with survival training and learn a new method of how to test if a mushroom is poisonous or edible and make your way into the camp dinning cave for a dinner with the surviving members of your family. After a meal made with a bit more effort then lunch, you retire to your make-shift shelter inside the cave where you tuck in for the night in the company of two other ponies you've chosen to bunk with.
This is a very basic and routine example, but it gives you a great guide for how a NORMAL day might go. If you opt to throw in more obstacles, your day would change accordingly. If drama or gossip leak in, it might come from one of your daily activities. So don't see this routine as a boring story, see it as a setting or framework for other things to take place in. Be creative! Use this base to jump off from as you develop your own story ideas.
Camp Roles
Every member of the camp is expected to participant in the upkeep, livelihood, and protection of the camp and its ponies. Every pony is given the choice of ONE Primary Role, while the secondary roles rotate daily. Primary roles are a pony's main focus, and secondary roles are more daily chores that need to be carried out. A pony can have up to 3 secondary roles a day, depending on role shifts. YOU will be in charge of determining your own pony's secondary roles for each day, but rotating is encouraged. Try to pick a chore to do with another player to get a story rolling or take time to get to know one another by chatting as you work.
Primary Roles
(this is your character's main focus. Pick ONE and post it in your OC sheet for approval! Keep in mind your character would have to have gone through a test and approval process to get their primary role, so choose something your character would have justified skills in. Once your character has established themselves within the camp, there is opportunity to become involved in multiple primary roles, so if you have your character being with the camp since it started or for 2 years etc, you may think about them being also involved with another primary role as well. Primary roles can change, but approval is needed by camp leader Genesee.)

Select Your Camp Opinion Divisions
In every society, no matter the size, there will ALWAYS be differing opinions that can cause subtle or large divisions within the group. These differences in opinions have the ability to flair when stressful times hit, so it is important to choose your side before you get into camp to know which side your character will be on if tensions rise.
Keep in mind that living in a small camp would mean you most likely know about others and they know about you, MAKE SURE TO LOOK AT OTHER’S CHARACTER SHEETS. Let’s not waste time with “Hi my name is” when you’ve most likely been living in the same camp together for a few years (unless of course, you just came to the camp). You should have a general idea about who each of the ponies are in camp.
Pick Your Divisions:
Please choose ONE opinion per category below. Choose based on your pony’s beliefs - do your best to stay true to your character! Keep in mind, these are GENERAL sides, just pick the option that best fits, even if you might not know enough about the camp yet or you feel neutral. Opinions can change. Note: You may change how your opinion is worded if you would like to, but keep the overall positioning close to one of the selections.
PLEASE PLACE YOUR CHOICE FOR EACH DIVISION WITHIN YOUR CHARACTER OC SHEET. This is important for other players to reference to. In camp life, everyone knows a bit about the other living in such close quarters, your opinions would be something others would most likely know of.
Division 1: View on participating in the ongoing War
We should go fight NOW! How dare those villians take our free lives from us!
We should keep our heads down until we are prepared enough to help and our numbers have grown.
This war is foolish. We should stay hidden so that we can live out our lives peacefully & safe from harm.
Division 2: Allegiance
To the Dark Alliance (you might want to keep this to yourself in camp…)
To Nightmare Moon, King Sombra, Queen Chrysalis (pick one)
To the Princesses (even if they are gone)
To Luna, to Celestia, or to Princess Cadence (pick one)
To the idea of a new elected leader
To one’s self; you no longer trust a pony in charge
Division 3: View on camp future
We should re-claim a city, we need the resources and we have the ponies to protect our claim!
We should stay and do our best to build out the mountain caverns, its safe and well hidden.
We should split up, our group has become too large and we will get noticed.
Division 4: View on how the camp is being run
We have too many rules, I should be allowed out of the caverns without permission and I’m tired of these tedious camp chores!
We all need to pull our own weight, our rules will keep us all united and alive.
We don’t have enough control, we need more rules to make sure everypony is in check! What if someone’s carelessness gives away our position to the enemy??
Creating Foes and Obstacles for you and your team:
Being out in the elements and raw nature will have obstacles and foes in the camp pony’s daily life. While occasional larger obstacles will be mod driven, in this section of the forum, YOU are primarily responsible for coming up with your own adversaries to drive your own stories. If you are RPing with another pony or two, use this opportunity to make adventures for your group! If you need someone to play the narrator of the event, please contact a mod and we will send in an NPC to help create the occurrence or foe. If you decide to narrate this yourself, thats fine, just make sure to play the foe in accordance with forum rules and regulations!
Please note: In this unpredictable time in Equestria, it is quite plausible that a beast or two from the Everfree Forest has used the chaos of war to venture out from its depths. BUT – this is highly limited and should be a very rare encounter, it would put the whole camp on high alert.
Accepted foes or obstacles:
Natural predators like Mountain Lions and Bears
Poisonous plants
Dangerous terrain (cliffs, pitfalls, rushing rivers, tree falls, risk of getting lost, etc)
Natural catastrophes (rock slides, sink holes, avalanches, etc)
Natural weather phenomena (severe temperatures, storms, hail, etc)
Forest fires (contained to areas of the forest, can’t be an entire mountain range event)
Timberwolves, Hydra, Cockatrice, phoenix (Should be extremely rare and limited)
Unapproved foes or obstacles:
Extreme events that would affect everypony in camp (approval needed)
Changelings (these are controlled only by the queen)
Dragons (approval needed)
Astral Beasts (approval needed)
Army Ponies (controlled only by other mods or NPCs)
